Wednesday, February 19th, 7 - 8:30 pm
Revered as a unique multi-disciplinary innovation center and visionary educational institution, Bauhaus has had an undeniable influence on generations of architects, designers and artists. As education institutions increasingly consolidate their architecture offerings, and as new design-driven programs emerge, what would Bauhaus look like in today's creative, pedagogical and market contexts?
Moderator Kevin Mitchell, Chancellor of American University Sharjah (AUS) imagines a potential Bauhaus today with Hani Asfour, Dean, Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI), Marco Sosa, Chair, College of Arts and Creative Enterprises, Zayed University, Piyush Bajpai, Project Director at X-Architects and artist Malda Smadi. "Art is the illusion of disorientation, the illusion of liberty, the illusion of presence, the illusion of the sacred, the illusion of Nature. Art is a distraction, art is false..."BMPT, Paris 1967
In 1967, BMPT staged the most radical critique of art institutions, called manifestations that enticed and baffled their spectators. This participatory performance examines BMPT's practice as a point of departure. Developed in collaboration with American University in Dubai (AUD). Performed for the second time at AUD on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:30pm. Artists: Sarra'a Alshehi, Anushka Anand and Areej Kaoud Curated by Flounder Lee |
